What is Ultrasound Therapy?

Ultrasound therapy is a treatment method that takes advantage of sound waves that are emitted from the head of a transducer. This same device is used as a diagnostic tool. Most people are familiar with ultrasound as a treatment for monitoring the progression of pregnancy. This tool can also be used to provide advanced medical therapy. In ultrasound therapy, the sound waves are targeted to the area of injuries such as a broken bone that might have been repaired or a ligament sprain. The sound waves are used to trigger cellular repair and regeneration. This will help heal your pet following a serious injury. Ultrasound therapy can be used to treat a variety of injuries and has become a part of the injury treatment process.

How Does Ultrasound Therapy Work?

An ultrasound probe is designed to emit sound waves from the end of the transducer. While these sound waves have long been used to generate images, their healing capacities have only recently been discovered. Research has shown that cells actually respond to the sound waves as they pass through them. Most recently in veterinary medicine, we have been using ultrasound as a part of the treatment process because it uses no radiation and does not produce any side effects. Ultrasound will be targeted to an injury that is still healing. Then, over the course of several sessions, the sound waves will be used to stimulate the healing process, leading to recovery.
